Groudon is a meeting room for student associations located in the building Domus Gaudium (Leppäsuonkatu 11) in Etu-Töölö. The entrance to the building is on a small square on Leppäsuonkatu. Next to the door there are bike racks and a doorbell with the label ”Groudon” – ring the doorbell and wait for someone to come and let you in. Groudon can be accessed without using stairs, but within the space there are some low thresholds.

Maan ystävien syysväentapaaminen järjestetään tänä vuonna
Östersundomin leirikeskuksessa Helsingissä 1.-3. marraskuuta.

Luvassa on mielenkiintoisia puheenaiheita, vegaanista ruokaa ja mukavaa yhdessäoloa. Osaan ohjelmasta on mahdollista osallistua myös etäyhteyden kautta. Paikalle voit saapua joko koko tapahtuman ajaksi tai vain osaksi aikaa. Leirikeskuksessa on hyvät yöpymismahdollisuudet.

Ohjelmassa on mm. tietoa Maan ystävien kampanjoista, uuden toiminnan ideointia sekä keskustelua Maan ystävien tilanteesta. Asiaohjelman lisäksi siellä on tietysti herkulliset ruuat, sauna ja mukavia ihmisiä!

Väentapaamiseen ovat myös uudet toiminnasta kiinnostuneet lämpimästi tervetulleita.

Maan ystävien jäsenille väentapaamiset ovat maksuttomia ja lähtökohtaisesti matkakulut korvataan. Muille osallistumismaksu on 10 euroa, sisältäen ateriat. Etäosallistuminen on maksutonta. Jäseneksi liittyminen onnistuu kätevästi verkossa.

Friends of the Earth Helsinki is going co-working on the Lassila farm in Tuusula on Sunday the 22nd of September!

What: physical work in the field or in the greenhouses, a tour of the farm and an opportunity to swim

Where: at the Lassila farm (Paijalantie 341, Tuusula), which is run by the community-supported agriculture (CSA) cooperative Oma Maa

When: on Sunday the 22nd of September from about 10 A.M. to 5 P.M., depending a bit on transports and people’s energy levels; lunch break is around noon and the tour of the farm right after that

Options for getting there:
1) by bike + train (about 10 km by bike from the Kerava station, or a bit less from Järvenpää, requires ABCD ticket, or in the case of Järvenpää alternatively a VR ticket)
2) by bus nearby (ABCD), then either a half-hour walk or possibly a car ride
3) possibly by carpool from Helsinki

Take with you: working clothes according to the weather forecast (!), your own lunch (!), water bottle, working gloves (if possible), swimming stuff in case you’re interested

Friends of the Earth Helsinki and Dodo organize a webinar on fostering biodiversity in courtyards and gardens. The Easy Meadow is a very simple concept: just leave a patch of lawn unmowed until late summer, and watch the previously suppressed flowering plants blossom! This will provide food and shelter for pollinators (among others), bring a pleasant new perspective to your everyday surroundings and decrease maintenance costs. And while there’s been plenty of advice for people who own their gardens, our focus is on how tenants can do this in their courtyards, which is often overlooked in the garden meadow discussion.

After an introduction to the Easy Meadows project we will hear a presentation by Beñat Olascoaga, a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki who’s specialized in the ecology of lawns and meadows. Beñat will tell us about what science has to say about turning lawns into meadows – whether Easy Meadows or conventional ones.

The webinar will be in English (asking questions in Finnish is OK!) and take place on Friday the 31st of May at 5 P.M. on Jitsi. There will be discussions and decisions on topical issues. The meeting will be held in English and some translation to Finnish provided if needed. Both newcomers and the more experienced are welcome!

Ulrika is a shared space for student associations located in the building Domus Gaudium (Leppäsuonkatu 11) in Etu-Töölö. The entrance to the building is on a small square on Leppäsuonkatu. Next to the door there are bike racks and a doorbell with the label ”Ulrika” – ring the doorbell and wait for someone to come and let you in. Ulrika can be accessed without using stairs (there’s an elevator in the building), but within the space there are some low thresholds.
