Welcome to a meeting of the pollinator group of Friends of the Earth Helsinki on Sunday the 27th of April at 5 P.M.! This time the meeting will be remotely only via Jitsi. In order to get the link, please sign up beforehand to iisiniitty [at] maanystavat.fi.

Friends of the Earth Helsinki region & university will have a regular meeting on Thursday the 10th of April from 6:15 to 8 PM. The meeting is organised at Ulrika (see below), and remote participation is possible via Jitsi.

There will be discussions and decisions on topical issues. The meeting will be held in English and some translation to Finnish provided if needed. Both newcomers and the more experienced are welcome!

Welcome to the Working Club of Friends of the Earth Helsinki!

This informal hangout is a place for discussions, greetings, ideas, feelings, cups of tea, plans, preparations and/or any other such things, whatever it is we feel we need. Come and say hi, share your thoughts and if you’re up to it, get more involved!

This time we’ll plan the upcoming forest dialogue event, discuss upcoming Oma Maa collaboration and revive the old badge-making machine, among other things.

Tämä epämuodollinen hengailu on paikka keskusteluille, tervehdyksille, ideoille, tuntemuksille, teekupposille, suunnitelmille, valmisteluille ja/tai muulle sellaiselle, mitä sitten tarvitsemmekaan. Tule moikkaamaan, jakamaan ajatuksiasi ja jos siltä tuntuu, osallistumaan enemmänkin!

Tällä kertaa suunnittelemme tulevaa metsädialogitapahtumaa, keskustellaan tulevasta yhteistyöstä Oma Maan kanssa ja elvytetään vanha pinssikone, muun muassa.

Perjantai 6.12. klo 12 on mainio aika kokoontua Helsingin keskustakirjasto Oodiin lukemaan ääneen Hannah Arendtin kirjaa Totalitarismin synty (1951). Luemme tekstiä vuorotellen ääneen toisillemme (saa myös tulla vain kuuntelemaan). Valitsemme lukukielen saatavilla olevien kappaleiden ja osallistujien toiveiden mukaan, ja jos meitä on paljon, voimme jakautua useammaksikin ryhmäksi.

Kokoonnumme Oodin avautuessa kello 12 ylimmän kerroksen kahvilan ja lautapelihyllyn välissä ja etsimme yhdessä sopivan paikan.

Friday the 6th of December at noon is a great time to gather in Oodi, the central library of Helsinki, to read aloud Hannah Arendt’s The Origins of Totalitarianism (1951). We’ll be taking turns reading the text to each other (you can also just join to listen). We’ll choose the language according to the copies available and to participants’ wishes, and if there are many of us, we can split into several groups.

We’ll meet when Oodi opens at noon on the top floor between the cafeteria and the board game shelf, and then find a suitable place together.

The arrangers will bring plenty of board games. You can also bring your own board games if you want.

There will be some vegan snacks.

Helsingin seudun & yliopiston Maan ystävien pölyttäjäryhmä kokoontuu järjestötila Ulrikassa (ks. alla) ke 11.12. klo 18. Kaikille kiinnostuneille avoimessa kokouksessa puhutaan pölyttäjäasioista ja suunnitellaan tulevaa toimintaa. Fokuksessa on erityisesti Iisi niitty -toiminta yhdessä Dodon kanssa.

Puhumme englantia tai suomea tilanteen mukaan, ja yksittäisiä puheenvuoroja voidaan tulkata. Pollinator group meeting

The pollinator group of Friends of the Earth Helsinki & Uni. Helsinki gathers remotely on Wednesday the 15th of December at 6 P.M. The meeting is open to everyone interested. We’ll discuss ongoing pollinator things and plan future activities. The focus is in particular on Easy Meadows things with Dodo.

We’ll speak English or Finnish according to the situation, and singular things can be translated. If you’re interested in a remote connection, please sign up before the meeting at helsinki [at] maanystavat.fi, so that you’ll get the Jitsi link. Jitsi works without registration in a web browser on a computer, but for using it on a phone the free Jitsi app is required.

Welcome to our discussion event at the Viikki municipal library on Wednesday the 22nd of January 2025!

Agriculture is a vital factor as societies pursue a transition to more sustainable lifestyles. It is widely recognised that the transition should be as fair and just as possible, considering the diverse perspectives of various stakeholders. What still needs to be discussed is what this claim for change actually means in practice. In this event,  we will ask what a just sustainability transition in agriculture would look like in Finland. Who gets to define it, and how does it come about – or not? The event will be a great introduction for anyone interested in the current state of agriculture in Finland.

The event will begin with Tuuli Orasmaa’s introduction to the topic based on her book Maaseudun tulevaisuus (”The Future of the Countryside”, Vastapaino 2023). The book is based on interviews with Finnish farmers and it highlights the many challenges of Finnish food production in the face of climate change, such as contradictions in policymaking and conflicts of values. In the book, Orasmaa also shares some thoughts and reflections on how society can move toward a fair and sustainable transition.
